UNICEF along with the WHO, worked closely with the Government of India (GoI) in providing an emergency response. This included procuring emergency medical supplies for hospitals such as personal protective equipment and oxygen concentrators, thermal scanners for airports and several rounds of supportive supervision of healthcare facilities in order to prepare hospitals to handle COVID-19 cases. Alongside strengthening the infrastructure of the health sector, UNICEF and partners also engaged in capacity building of healthcare workers and frontline workers in COVID-19 infection prevention and control.
