UNICEF supports India's Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) by procuring Cold Chain Equipment (CCE) that are needed to augment the gaps in the Immunization Supply Chain (ISC). UNICEF procures only those CCE that conform to WHO Performance Quality and Safety (PQS) standards. The Supply Division of UNICEF in Copenhagen establishes linkages with manufacturers who are PQS certified and enter into a Long Term Arrangement (LTA) with them. This enables any UNICEF office, anywhere in the world to procure equipment from them. In terms of the procedure followed, when the need for CCE arises, the Supply Division is contacted and they, in turn, start the process. The India Country Office (ICO) has the flexibility to choose the equipment according to the specifications and suitability to India.
