Vaccines, being temperature sensitive, require careful storage and transportation from manufacturers to beneficiaries, through an intricate weave of Immunization Supply Chain (ISC) at recommended temperature range to maintain their potency. Currently, all immunization supply chains are designed to accommodate the vaccines covered under their National Immunization Schedules, for the usual cohort of infants and pregnant women. Hence it was essential to estimate the extra cold chain space required for the COVID-19 vaccine, to identify and quantify gaps, and explore possible solutions to potentially address the capacity gaps.
